Foray into Steampunk

I recently completed Dreadnought by Cherie Priest, a Steampunk novel. This author blended alternate history, the Civil War was still being waged in the 1870s, and technical marvels. Her fair heroine, a Confederate nurse who has recently been widowed, travels West to reunite with her father in varied modes of transportation from  a hot air balloon to a fabled train, the Dreadnought. This Union controlled train carrying cargo from gold bars to deceased soldiers headed for burial is pursued by a renegade posse and later zombies.
